Addition Calculator

Our calculator is designed to quickly and easily provide the sum of any two numbers. Start solving your simple addition problems with ease using it.

(Operand A) + (Operand B) = (Sum C)
Result

An operand is a number or variable used in a mathematical operation. In the case of addition, the operands are the numbers we are adding.

The symbol we use to represent addition is the plus sign (+). So, when we see the equation 2 + 3, we know that we are adding the numbers 2 and 3. The result of this addition is called the sum. In this case, the sum would be 5.

It is important to note that addition is commutative, which means that the order of the operands does not matter. For example, 3 + 2 is the same as 2 + 3, and both will give us the same sum of 5.

Examples

  • 5 + 6 = 11
  • 9 + 3 = 12
  • 7 + 8 = 15

We can also use addition to solve word problems, such as "If José has 2 apples and receives 3 more, how many apples does he have now?" The answer is 5 apples.

Negative Values

A negative number is a number less than zero. We represent negative numbers with a negative sign (-) in front of the number. For example, -3 is a negative number.

When adding negative numbers, the rules are similar to when adding positive numbers. The only difference is that the sum can also be a negative number. For example, if we add 3 + (-2), the sum is 1. The sum is positive because 3 is positive and -2 is negative.

On the other hand, if we add -3 + (-2), the sum is -5. The sum is negative because both numbers are negative.

It is also important to remember that subtraction is the inverse operation of addition. So, if we subtract a positive number from another positive number, the result will be positive; if we subtract a negative number from another negative number, the result will be negative.

Examples - Negative Numbers

  • 3 + (-2) = 1
  • -3 + (-2) = -5
  • -3 + 2 = -1
